On the morning of December 19, 2023, Members of the Blue Mountain Snowdrifters Snowmobile Club, Clearview Council, Clearview Township Staff and the Christie family gathered on Concession 6 in Nottawa for the grand opening of the Ed Christie Memorial Bridge.
Mayor Doug Measures was honoured to be part of the grand Opening, “It is an honour to open this bridge and name it, The Ed Christie Memorial Bridge. Ed served Clearview Township as a councillor and a dedicated volunteer to trails for all the community to use. His efforts made a positive impact on our community, and we thank him with this dedication.”
The bridge, connecting the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) snowmobile trail, was a dream of late Clearview Councillor Ed Christie, who passed away in 2019.
“A big thank you also goes out to Clearview Township, Mayor Doug Measures and all the hard-working councillors and municipal staff for their support and commitment to help see this bridge through to its completion. We couldn’t have done it without everyone’s support!” said Claudio Sulpizi, President of the Blue Mountain Snowdrifters Snowmobile Club, “When everyone works together and shares resources, dreams can become a reality!”
Spearheaded by the Blue Mountain Snowdrifters the building of the Ed Christie Memorial Bridge was a true community effort, with contributions from the OFSC ($565,000), Central Ontario ATV Club ($25,000), Clearview Township ($10,000), RJ Burnside (engineering and designing), Cherokee Contracting (construction) and the NVCA along with assistance from volunteers and local landowners.
