Clearview Township is pleased to announce that Phase one of the Stayner Downtown Revitalization Project has been approved for $187,675. in funding from the My Main Street Community Activator program.
At a Special Council Meeting on December 17th, Mayor Doug Measures welcomed the staff report from General Manager of Parks, Culture & Recreation, Terry Vachon that outlined the details of the grant funding for the Stayner Centennial Park and Trailhead Amenities project.
Mayor Measures is grateful that a grant opportunity has been successful for Clearview Township and offered this comment: “Clearview Township acknowledges the support of the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.” The Mayor further stated that; “I am thankful to our staff that worked on this grant application and I look forward to the next stages of the Stayner Downtown revitalization that will encourage visitors to stop, explore, and discover Clearview Township.”
Providing support for projects that seek to revitalize neighbourhoods and reimagine public spaces as vibrant and inclusive places that work for everyone, My Main Street is administered by the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) in partnership with the Economic Development Council of Ontario (EDCO) and funded by the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.
Terry Vachon, General Manager Parks, Culture and Recreation, is thrilled to receive support for the Stayner Downtown Revitalization Project, “Since COVID-19, the Township has been developing projects that encourage more outdoor amenities, plus access to parks, trails and green spaces. This placemaking project will encourage more people to visit, spend locally and enjoy downtown Stayner.”
“The project will benefit our downtown with increased access to green space and trails, the installation of benches to allow for small groups to gather, and lighting on the trail network to allow longer hours for walking and cycling, reducing overcrowding and improving safety.” Terry continued.
The funding will be used specifically to support the following portions of Phase one:
- Centennial Park & Trailhead Amenities - The parkland portion of phase one of the Stayner Downtown Open Spaces Master Plan.
- Improvements to Brock Street and the corner of Highway 26 – The addition of a new 24-space parking lot on Brock Street, including accessible spaces and barrier-free curbs as well as bike racks. These improvements will create a welcoming and attractive place for visitors to stop, shop and explore Downtown Stayner.
- The Train Trail - Which starts in Stayner leads into Collingwood, and then into Meaford, will be aligned to improve safety for users.
