Construction activity is ongoing on the Sunnidale Street Reconstruction project. It is anticipated that all work will be completed by the end of August 2025, weather permitting and barring any unforeseen issues.
The following is a brief summary of the current and upcoming work.
- Topsoil and Sod: Placing topsoil and laying sod to restore landscaping within the limits of construction. The contractor is responsible for the initial watering and maintenance of newly laid sod. However, due to the time of year and current weather conditions, it would be appreciated if homeowners could also assist in watering the new sod as part of their usual lawn/garden maintenance in order to help the grass establish. Please be aware that the Township’s Water By-law 07-29, allows for watering of newly laid sod at discretion of the Director of Public Works.
- Road Paving: Paving of surface asphalt along Sunnidale Street (from Phillips Street to Centreline Road) is tentatively scheduled for mid/late August, weather permitting and barring any unforeseen issues. It is anticipated that paving operations will take 1 day to complete. A separate notice will be issued to residents once the date of paving has been confirmed.
- Pavement Marking: Following completion of paving, permanent line painting/ pavement markings will be done.
Vehicle and Pedestrian Access
- During paving of surface asphalt, a full road closure on Sunnidale Street (from Phillips Street to Centreline Road) will be required between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. so the asphalt paving can be completed as safely and efficiently as possible. A separate update will be issued to residents once the date of paving has been confirmed.
- Vehicle access to Sunnidale Street will not be available during paving operations as the road will be closed to traffic. Traffic control and detour signage will be installed to advise and guide motorists during the road closure.
- Access to driveways will also be restricted during the noted times. Residents will be requested to move their vehicles outside the limits of construction prior to 7:00 a.m. on the day of paving, to avoid being impacted by the paving operations.
- Emergency Services (police, fire and medical response) access will be maintained at all times during paving.
- Pedestrian access will also be maintained.
Disruptions
As with all construction projects, there will be some temporary inconveniences to the local community.
We anticipate minimal interruptions to telephone, hydro, cable TV, internet and gas services for the remainder of the project. Residents will be notified in advance of any planned interruptions to services. However, unplanned interruptions to services may occur. Your patience during these times is appreciated and the contractor/utility provider is committed to restoring the services as quickly as possible. Disruption to water service is not anticipated for the remainder of the project.
